Gniyrg Gnaarg are a Finnish heavy metal band with a strong enough influence of doom and stoner groove to reconsider their own genre: "What do you get when you combine doom, grunge and stoner? The answer is Dungeon. We play dungeon."
What's not to love about that! There's a lot of promise within this demo and I suspect that the next time we hear from them they will have tightened up their playing to really get the most out of the ideas they play around with in the four ten-minute tracks. Ten minutes is a long timee if even good riffs aren't played to pefection and the trio do a good job of keeping the tension and presence up. The whole of Big Bang is as epic as the title, a monolithic Sleep-y three minute build to the lyrics which are a windswept cry into the wilderness, the brilliant scrabbly scratching noise that I assume is guitar but could be the claws of rodents running over the foreground; the feral, hairy yowls in the middle of Awaiting The Sunlight and the grinding crunch of the guitars as they march out towards the cry of "All hail the tyrants!" ; all a build up to the peaking end of Enter the Dungeon when it all loosens up into a flailing grungy rock out
Pure Metal anthemic rabble rousing given a fresh blast of fetid dungeon air. Breathe it in deeply!
